Are you searching for answers to your health and nutrition concerns? Look no further. The Family & Consumer Sciences Program of the University of Maryland Extension can help! There is an office conveniently located in Allegany County. We offer health, nutrition, and food-related information, resources, and classes free of charge. We have an exciting nutrition program, EFNEP, designed especially for limited-income individuals and families. These free programs are open to all groups including individuals, Federal, State and County agencies, organizations, churches, businesses, etc.
To learn how to manage diabetes and weight through healthy eating, you are invited to take part in a free two-part seminar. Dr. Jennifer Thorn Bentlejewski, Registered Dietitian of the University of Maryland Extension, will present detailed meal planning techniques including the diabetic exchanges and carbohydrate counting. Techniques for dining out, using artificial sweeteners and understanding food labels will also be discussed.
